IMAGINE BAROQUE
2022

On July 20, 2022, pianist and composer Sinziana Mircea, the only Romanian artist designated as a Young Steinway Artist, returned to the stage of the Romanian Athenaeum with a bold and visionary project: Imagine Baroque. This immersive concert blended classical music, electronic soundscapes, and live video mapping, offering a fresh and vibrant reinterpretation of Italian Baroque through the lens of 21st-century creativity. Joined by internationally acclaimed soprano Laura Tătulescu, Italian electronic artist Giovanni Dinello, and visual artist Adistu, Sinziana Mircea presented a one-of-a-kind production that brought the magnificent harmonies of the Baroque era into a contemporary, interdisciplinary format. The concert was part of the prestigious Summer Magic Festival, and marked a major milestone in the IMAGINE series by introducing electronic music for the first time. A highlight of the evening was the world premiere of two cantatas for soprano and piano by Italian composer Benedetto Marcello, performed for the first time in over 300 years. These unpublished manuscripts, dating back to the 17th century, were discovered by Sinziana Mircea in the library of the Benedetto Marcello Conservatory in Venice, during her research residency awarded through the Nicolae Iorga Fellowship — one of Romania’s most prestigious grants for young artists and scholars. The cantatas were brought to life by two Romanian musicians: soprano Laura Tătulescu and pianist Sinziana Mircea, in what may have been their first public performance on a national and possibly global scale. The concert also featured the premiere of the Serenissima Suite, composed by Sinziana Mircea for piano and live electronics. Inspired by the mystique and beauty of Venice, the suite unfolds in four movements — Shadows in the Water, Venetian Moonlight, Midnight in San Marco, and Sunrise in Venice — each evoking a different facet of the city’s timeless charm. The electronic textures, performed live by Giovanni Dinello, created a dreamlike atmosphere, while Adistu’s AI-powered video mapping transformed the stage into a living canvas of light and movement.

FORTUNA
2020

FORTUNA – Piano Sensation marks a historic moment in Romanian discography: the first album released by Electrecord in over 30 years featuring a Romanian pianist as both performer and composer. Internationally acclaimed artist Sinziana Mircea, known for her tours across China, Japan, and the United States, presents her first author album — a bold artistic statement that blends classical inspiration with contemporary creativity. The album was recorded and released in 2020, accompanied by a series of four music videos filmed entirely in Romania by Dan Gherghiceanu / AeroView, with support from the National Museum of Art of Romania. Audio production was led by sound engineer Dan Corjos. The first live concert dedicated to the album took place in 2021 at the George Enescu Philharmonic in Bucharest, as part of the prestigious Magic Summer Festival, bringing the album’s vision to life on stage for the first time. FORTUNA – Piano Sensation features 15 original compositions by Sinziana Mircea, inspired by iconic themes from classical music, including Carmina Burana by Carl Orff, as well as works drawing from the musical worlds of Chopin, Bach, and Haendel. The album includes both live recordings from her concert at the Stockholm Philharmonic and studio sessions produced at the legendary Electrecord label. Electrecord’s General Director, Cornelia Andreescu, remarked: “We are proud to support this young pianist in her debut as a composer. This is the first album of its kind since the days of George Enescu and Dinu Lipatti, whose recordings of their own works were first published by Electrecord in the mid-20th century. We are honored to continue this tradition in 2020 with Sinziana Mircea’s project.” The album’s compositions received international recognition, with several pieces broadcast by BBC Radio 3 through the European Broadcasting Union, reaching over a million listeners in thirteen countries. Two works were created under the Brătianu Fellowship, awarded by the Romanian Ministry of Culture in 2020. The album features arrangements for piano, guitar, soprano, and even two or three pianos, with guest artists Raisa Mihai (guitarist and co-author) and Amalia Lazarciuc (soprano). The concert at the Stockholm Philharmonic in 2019, organized by the Romanian Cultural Institute in Stockholm and the Romanian Embassy in Sweden, celebrated Romania’s National Day and was later included in the album to preserve the warmth and emotion of live performance — especially meaningful during the pandemic year of 2020, when concert halls around the world fell silent. Reflecting on the project, Sinziana shared: “This is a new experience for me, and I’m thrilled to share it with you. These piano variations on famous classical themes are inspired by a long-standing tradition where composers reimagined each other’s ideas to discover new artistic horizons. J.S. Bach’s piano version of Alessandro Marcello’s Adagio for oboe and orchestra is a perfect example of this creative dialogue.” FORTUNA – Piano Sensation is available at Electrecord, Emag.ro, Cărturești, and major bookstores. The digital edition is streaming on Spotify, iTunes, and other platforms. Selected tracks and videos can be found on Sinziana Mircea’s YouTube channel, including the official video for the title piece Fortuna. Full track details are included in the album’s official booklet.

IMAGINE CHOPIN

IMAGINE CHOPIN
2019

IMAGINE CHOPIN marked the genesis of the IMAGINE Immersive Concert Series, a visionary concept created by pianist and composer Sinziana Mircea. Rooted in the timeless elegance of Chopin’s music, the project reimagines his legacy through a contemporary lens — blending classical performance with original transcriptions, visual storytelling, and interdisciplinary artistry. At its heart, IMAGINE CHOPIN is a celebration of innovation. The program featured new arrangements for piano, classical guitar, and soprano, crafted by the performers themselves, and was brought to life through live video projections and videomapping, transforming each concert into a poetic and immersive experience. This bold reinterpretation of Chopin’s repertoire offered audiences a fresh emotional perspective, while preserving the depth and nuance of his original works. The project was presented across Romania and Europe, with performances in London (Steinway Hall), Stockholm Philharmonic, Venice Conservatoire, Târgu Mureș Philharmonic, Bistrița, Sfântu Gheorghe, and Sala Radio in Bucharest. Each venue became a canvas for the fusion of sound and image, tradition and innovation — a testament to the power of classical music to evolve and resonate across generations. The Bucharest concert, recorded by Radio România Muzical, received international acclaim when it was selected as a headline broadcast by BBC Radio 3 through the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). Aired twice, in 2020 and 2021, the performance was recognized for its innovative repertoire and the masterful interpretation of Sinziana Mircea, placing the project among the most artistically daring and culturally relevant classical productions in Europe. IMAGINE CHOPIN is more than a concert — it is a statement of artistic freedom, a bridge between eras, and the beginning of a series that continues to redefine how classical music is experienced. Through this project, Sinziana Mircea established a new creative language, one that invites audiences to see, hear, and feel music in ways they never imagined.
